New CO2 Connect Data Contributors

CO2 Connect enables CO2 emissions calculations based on actual fuel consumption data.

Brazilian airline Azul announced during IATA's World Passenger Symposium that it would join IATA's CO2 Connect program. By joining IATA CO2 Connect, Azul demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and transparency, offering its customers reliable information about the environmental impact of its flights. Azul also reinforces its participation in the aviation sector's global effort to achieve emissions reduction targets and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

“One of Azul’s priorities is to continue growing sustainably and reducing its CO2 emissions. With IATA's CO2 Connect we are able to access accurate operational data, which will be fundamental in this work on reducing and calculating emissions. With this service, our work will be based on reliable data of unprecedented quality in the market”, highlights Raphael Linares, Fleet Director at Azul.

Back in October Aerolineas Argentinas, Air Baltic, LATAM Airlines Group, Luxair and Nile Air had already joined IATA CO2 Connect. More than 150 airlines now contribute operational data, thus further differentiating the tool from those calculators which mainly rely on estimates and simulation.

IATA originally launched CO2 Connect in June 2022, with the objective of using actual airline data, such as fuel burn, belly cargo and load factors in order to provide accurate per passenger CO2 emissions calculations.
