This month:
Stepping up to the ET challenge
With China, the US and parts of Europe already issuing 90% or more of their tickets as ETs, the acceptance of ET in these markets is clear. What is not so well known is how the level of ET issuance has accelerated across the globe. Below are examples of how airlines world wide stepped up to the ET challenge during the last few months.
- Japan Airlines International, one of the largest ticket issuers in the BSP, increased their level of ET issuance by an overall 20% in the last 4 months of 2006, a year during which they implemented 25 interline ET agreements.
- Garuda Indonesia, a major carrier with a complex domestic network spanning 4 time zones, covering Asia, Australasia and the Middle East, went from issuing only 6% ET in October 2006 to achieve a level of 70% by the end of Jan 2007.
- Bulgaria Air, who issued their first BSP ET in June 2006, had achieved ET issuance level of 76% by the end of Jan 2007.
- Egyptair, in their first month of ET issuance achieved a level of 5%. Already over 100,000 passengers have flown Egyptair using ETs. Equally impressive, Egyptair has already implemented two interline ET agreements.
- Aloha Airlines, over the last 2 months achieved an increase of 44% in their share of ET issuance.

What are ET Hubs?
“ET Hubs” are a product that can quickly establish connectivity between ET databases. The “One to many” connections that are the main feature of what system suppliers describe as their “ET Hub” solutions are designed to assist airlines to more rapidly and cost effectively deploy interline ET agreements. Since an ET Hub has connections to many different airline ET Servers, an individual airline can access all of the other connected airlines with a single connection to the Hub. Is such ET Hub connectivity a “magic bullet” for the interline ET challenge? Read the article.
