IATA has in recent years encouraged the development of practical GPS/GNSS applications as part of the transition toward new CNS/ATM. In addition, requests have been received from time to time from airlines to encourage development of GPS procedures, especially at aerodromes with limited navigation infrastructure.

In response to the above requirement, IATA has established a RNAV(GNSS) Procedure Implementation Package, which provides the design and implementation of RNAV (GNSS) Procedures for States. The product can be tailored to the specific needs of each State, but the full package includes:

• Development of RNAV(GNSS) Non-Precision Approach Procedures;
• WGS-84 surveys;
• Development of Standard Instrument Departure (SID) and Arrival (STAR)  Procedures;
• Modification of Airspace Structure Design to meet RNAV (GNSS) requirements;
• Development and preparation for publication of all relevant charts;
• Instrument approach arrival and departure flight verification:
• Drafting of necessary national GNSS legislation and regulations.
• Training workshops and seminars
• Quality assurance.
