BCBP & Civil Aviation

Home-printed bar coded boarding passes (BCBP) and mobile phone BCBP are widely accepted at security checkpoints worldwide, as shown on the interactive map. IATA urges government security officials around the world to consider acceptance of these boarding passes at security checkpoints.

The safety and security of aviation operations remains our highest priority. The IATA bar coded boarding pass standard was built with this in mind. BCBP, whether home printed or on a mobile phone, contain the same information as a paper boarding pass printed at the airport: passenger name, airline name, date of flight, and more. In fact, bar coded boarding passes have the potential to be more secure than magnetic stripe boarding passes. The barcodes on these boarding passes, whether home-printed, airport issued, or on a mobile phone screen, can be scanned at security checkpoints to display or collect data automatically, in a structured format defined by IATA’s standard.

IATA is committed to helping government authorities develop solutions and procedures that accept BCBP and comply with local security regulations. For more information, email bcbp@iata.org.
