Two major carriers become 100% BCBP
Two more carriers, Kingfisher Airlines and Alaska Airlines, became 100% BCBP at all check-in counters network-wide this month, 18 months ahead of the IATA 2010 mandate.
Alaska Airlines is the first IATA member in the US to become 100% BCBP. The airline is the ninth largest carrier in the country based on passenger traffic, carrying 16.8 million passengers in 2008.
Kingfisher, based in India, is the first Asian airline to go 100% BCBP. The carrier operates 425 flights a day in the country, connecting 70 cities with a fleet of 75 aircraft.
BCBP Matchmaker hits 500
The BCBP Matchmaker now has 535 airports registered. Are you one of them?
The BCBP Matchmaker offers airports and airlines the opportunity to coordinate their implementation of BCBP. Airports can view the capability of airlines and exchange implementation date requests, which help speed up the roll out. In addition, the BCBP Matchmaker is the industry tool that measures BCBP capability and the industry’s progress towards the IATA Board mandate of 100% BCBP by the end of 2010.
New BCBP standard now available
In October 2008, the Joint Passenger Services Conference (JPSC) approved an amendment to the BCBP mobile standard, adding the possibility for a digital signature. The revised standard meets the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security requirements.
The standard now also includes a BCBP XML schema, enabling airport security checkpoints to exchange BCBP data with airline Departure Control Systems (DCS). The BCBP standard version 3 is now published and effective, along with a revised edition of the BCBP implementation guide. Both of these documents can be downloaded from the BCBP website.
