BCBP background information
Vision:
The goal is to reduce lines at airports and reduce airline costs associated with check-in processes whilst offering more convenience to the passenger.
- By end 2008, airlines should become BCBP capable
- By end 2010, all boarding passes must be BCBP
Benefits:
- Customers will be empowered to print their own boarding pass at home or at the office and thus avoid queues for check-in.
- Airlines will be able to provide one boarding pass for the entire journey and will benefit from cheaper related equipment and maintenance and from the elimination of ATB paper
- Airports will be able to improve their use of airport space, lower their equipment related costs and increase throughput of constrained areas.
- Projected savings are US$3.58 per home check-in with baggage and US$5.34 without baggage.
- 100% BCBP usage can bring annual industry savings of US$0.5 billion.
IATA's action plan
- Provide implementation support to airlines to become BCBP capable by 2008
- Ensure service providers are BCBP enabled
