The ET penetration graph illustrates the industry's progress towards achieving the targets agreed by the IATA Board at the 2004 AGM:
- 40% electronic ticketing by the end of 2005
- 70% electronic ticketing by the end of 2006
- 80% electronic ticketing achieved by April 2007
June 4, 2007 AGM resolved to extend the 100% ET deadline to May 31, 2008
The data is updated at the end of each month to reflect transactions for the previous month.
Note:
The ET penetration graph reflects the performance of all airlines based in the respective region and it considers tickets issued by these airlines in BSPs all over the world.
ET penetration is calculated using a standard formula that compares the ratio of electronic tickets issued to standard paper tickets. These figures only represent ticket numbers processed through the IATA Billing and Settlement Plan network and do not include airline direct sales or other channels of distribution.
In addition, ET Penetration will vary depending on the total volumes of tickets issued in each region. This may cause Global ET Penetration to drop even in cases where ET Penetration at a regional level is higher.
