Infrastructure Strategy

In its activities related to air traffic management and airport strategy infrastructure, IATA seeks to establish and maintain a global plan that addresses high level, long-term strategy and near-term issues, as well as harmonised regional development.

Infrastructure policies supporting the global infrastructure plan are incorporated into IATA's Technical Operations Policy Manual (TOPM).

IATA interfaces with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and participates on ICAO technical panels that deal with communications, navigation, surveillance, air traffic management and related infrastructure issues. IATA also has cooperates with  the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) and supports activity in the RTCA, EUROCAE, Airlines Electronic Engineering Committee (AEEC) and other organisations.

Aviation Frequency Spectrum
Aviation depends on access to an adequate and predictable radio spectrum, which has become a highly valued global resource. Decisions taken at the World Radio Conferences of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU WRC) have far-reaching effects on air transport. Via the Spectrum Protection Steering Group, coordinated by the Infrastructure Strategy workgroup, IATA takes a leading role in defining and representing airline requirements.
