Reservations

IATA wishes to facilitate communications relating to the sale of international air transportation on the services of IATA Member Airlines between those airlines and ERSPs who operate through the Internet or other on-line service.

To this end, the IATA Passenger Agency Conference (PAConf) adopted Resolution 898a - Electronic Reservation Services Providers and IATA together with IATAN, its wholly owned U.S.A. subsidiary, in co-operation with the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) and the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) have developed a numbering scheme to identify all ERSPs including traditional professional travel agents operating an electronic reservations service.

This unique code will enable airlines and other travel industry suppliers to identify the source of these on-line bookings. Ticketing and other service requirements will be carried out by the airline or one of its appointed IATA Agents. The IATA Passenger Services Conference (PSC) has also adopted Resolution 784 - Electronic Reservation Services Providers (ERSPs) .

Resolution 784 is the central reference to standard procedures for use when selling air transportation via electronic commerce, and to provision of the unique numbering scheme. The Resolution is supported by an in depth Implementation Guide which provides the procedures recommended for ERSPs, airlines and CRS when selling air transportation via electronic commerce. In the United States of America, ARC, in co-operation with IATAN, provides registration for ERSPs.
